Jak jsem běžela 1/5 maraton / About my 1/5 Marathon

To není fér!

Už tam mi spousta čtenářek vyjadřovala podporu a některé dokonce zajímalo, jaké by si měly koupit běžecké boty :)

Hlídání batohu jsme měly zajištěné od Johariiných rodičů, takže jsme už neměly žádné velké předstartovní starosti. Do startovního koridoru dorazily možná až příliš brzo.

Zazněl startovní výstřel a my se až nečekaně plynule sunuly dopředu bez nějakých strkanic.

Dneska jí to vážně nějak trvá. Když konečně přišla, vysvětlovala, že tam ještě roztlačovala nějaké auto. Jak jinak, to by nebyla ona, kdyby nebyla i po závodu svěží a plná energie :)

Faithful readers of my blog already know that I decided to run this year's half-marathon at Prague last year when I was there as an attendant. I've had created my running plan since the summer in order to run the half this March with no suffering and a lot of fun. I kept withing the plan in autumn but I wasn't lucky. Some infection brought me down before the Christmas – I spent few days in hospital with dropping funnels and then many days relaxing in bed. At the end of January I was starting to feel as a human being again and I started to develop up my poor muscles. I started to run slowly at the middle of February. It was not possible for me to finish half-marathon training within five or six weeks. Such effort would bring some injury probably instead of a success especially if I've never run more then about nine kilometers. At this time I understood that there will be no half-marathon this year again.
My boyfriend told me in autumn that if I run the half in spring I would be a champion. That was a real motivation for me :) However the situation was clear for me at the end of winter and I took it – I was not going to be a champion this year yet.
There was the end of March and I my “long” runs were about 4 kilometers long. I was looking forward to run 5km at least and more and more and I knew that I have to be patient. But there started to be hard times: at boards, at e-zines, shortly everywhere everyone was talking about the half-marathon. I was more and more desperate that I couldn't run it each following day. That's not fair! I'm going to miss this awesome feeling during the race. My desperation culminated when I discovered that I could find three other persons and we could run this half as a relay! Why I didn't realize this earlier? I hunted three more runners with no result – there were only two days till the D-Day and who wanted to run had been registered already.
I was heart-broken. I was reading the list of races in an effort to find some short race that should supply this lost experience. At this moment I've received an email from my friend Johari who was also planning to run the half: “It's easy! You can just run the beginning and than you can break away and cheer on other runners.” That was a great idea. Why I couldn't run just a part of the race? I had almost melted by all the bliss. After all I won't miss it.
I packed my running clothes and shoes into the rucksack at the Saturday morning. I had a look to the weather forecast for the last time: there will be rainy for sure. I added the cap, gloves and the spare pair of socks in case I got drenched.
There were many other runners getting on the train on my way to the race at each station. It was easy to identify them – they were dressed as runners or they had a special rucksack. I revealed the rest of them because of their running shoes or heart rate monitor watches. Some of them were alone some of them were with their wifes...
We had a meeting with Johari near the start line. I changed my clothes at the toilets of Municipal Library – dry and warm place :) Many readers supported me there and one of them even wanted to know which shoes she should buy :)
We had a rucksack guards (Johari's parents) so there were no more troubles before the start. We were standing in the lane quite early. It was quite cold though it was a great feeling. We closed a deal that we will beat the marathon in a relay before the race started.
There was a gunshot and we were moving forward quite easy. We divided shortly after the start – I'm much slower runner then Johari and I didn't want to run too fast at the beginning. It was a beautiful run. Many people got ahead me – among others a lady with the baby-coach, many pensioners and at the fourth kilometer a miss with the 2:10 balloon. When a lady from Finland was passing me I thought that she could tell me how should I properly read the “Suunto” label but before I took thought whether I should intrude her by this she was gone.
I was expecting the rain but instead of it there was a sunny weather – it started to be too hot. I was lucky that I was so lightly dressed. I tucked my sleeves and visualized the last article at behej.com e-zine that we really don't need to worry about the sunburn this year... They had been wrong :)
I passed the refreshment and enjoyed the shining sun. I realized that I had just passed planned five kilometers. I felt still fine and fit. We run through a few tunnels and approached to the city center again. When we were running from the tunnel along the ascending road some Swedish runner omitted the traffic sign and the board of the sign stroked the top of his head. It was quite loud sound however he fortunately looked like he had been all right – he put his cap back to his head and continued running.
I was approaching the eight kilometer which I established as my high-level target. I should not run longer otherwise I my body would pain for a week and my knees would be on strike. I started to feel tired so I stopped the timer and branched off the crowd. I was a bit disoriented first and I didn't know which direction should I walk to get into the finish. Finally I borrowed a map from some tourists :)
I got my bag from our caddies and we were going to root near the finish line and look for Johari. I was a bit disappointed that the rest of the audience was quite silent – no clapping hands... I tried to clap my hands as much as was possible (it's quite hard:) There were two tourists standing near us with bored faces - smoking and blowing the smoke among the runners. But for the endorphines from the run I would tell them off probably. They increased my blood pressure by such a behavior.
It had been almost two hours since the start and Johari haven't finished yet. Where is she? She told us that she would run slowly and she had had aching ankle and angina and she hadn't trained... But who would believe her? She always tells thinks like that. We rejected by a unanimous vote that she had give it up – she would never give up :) Finally she run over and we saw her late for taking a picture of her again.
We went to the meeting point and we were waiting for her. We were sitting on seats for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes and she hadn't come. When she come after all she explained us that she had been wheeling some car... Sure, it would not be Johari if she wasn't fresh and full of energy even after the race :)
